Women hate me because I'm beautiful: British columnist

A Daily Mail columnist who wrote how her beautiful looks are a curse has sparked a backlash around the world.

Samantha Brick's controversial column for the British newspaper has more than 1.5 million hits online and more than 5,000 comments — most of them scathing.

"While I'm no Elle Macpherson, I'm tall, slim, blonde and, so I'm often told, a good-looking woman," Brick wrote in the column published Tuesday.

The 41-year-old self-proclaimed beauty claims she regularly gets bottles of champagne sent to her restaurant table from unknown men.

"How does your head fit through your office door every morning? Hate to say it Samantha, but your (sic) distinctly average looking in my opinion," one commenter named Simon wrote on the Daily Mail website.

Brick's name has been trending on Twitter for the past two days and has made headlines around the world.

On Wednesday, Brick wrote a followup column claiming, "this bile just proves I'm right."

Brick admitted the negative attention drove her to tears but said she has no regrets about writing the column.

"If Brad Pitt were to say: 'Yes, I'm a good-looking fella,' then the world would nod sagely in agreement. But if Angelina Jolie uttered something along those lines, she'd be subject to the same foaming-at-the-mouth onslaught hurled at me yesterday," Brick wrote in her followup piece.

On Twitter, the spoof account @La_Brick, already has nearly 14,000 followers.

"Woman at the supermarket till just refused my coupons because they were 'expired'. I think we all know the real reason," the user tweeted.

Even the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons' press office chimed in on Twitter: "I have no idea whether surgeons look to Samantha Brick as the beauty ideal to aspire to. Will ask."
