Montreal ranked best for international events

Montreal can add another honour to its list.
Last month, the popular travel guide Lonely Planet named it one of the world's top 10 party cities.
On Monday, Montreal was named the best conference destination in North America by the Union of International Associations.
Washington D.C. was named second and New York city placed third.
"We are very proud of our ranking, which is testimony to the efforts made by our team and by the Tourisme Montreal team to make Montreal a top conference destination for international associations seeking an exceptional experience for their participants," said Marc Tremblay, president of the Palais des congrès de Montreal, said in a statement.
"This title, combined with our recent 90% score for customer service quality, indicates that Montreal and the Palais remain among the world's best-loved destinations."
On its site, the Palais des congrès de Montreal convention centre says it has hosted 4,300 events and 12.6 million visitors since opening in 1983.
Earlier this year, Montreal was ranked among the 22 most economically competitive urban areas in the world. The study was conducted for Citigroup.
"While economic size and growth are important and necessary, several other factors determine a city’s overall competitiveness, including its business and regulatory environment, the quality of human capital and indeed the quality of life," the Citigroup report said. "These factors not only help a city sustain a high economic growth rate, but also create a stable and harmonious business and social environment."
