Sizing up 'The Voice' finalists

Article content

The good news: you won The Voice. The bad news: I still needed Google to remember your name.

But such is life in the Xtina-verse -- and reality-TV in general -- where today's champion is tomorrow's barista. And it's a timely reminder considering the third season of the hit show concludes Tuesday on NBC and CTV.

What we learned from Google: Javier Colon of season one peaked at 17 on the Billboard charts with his single Stitch by Stitch. It looks like he's since parted ways with his label too.

Hmm. That's not too uplifting but maybe season two's winner has done better?

Jermaine Paul took a much worse post-Voice beating and his cover of I Believe I Can Fly was dissed not only by critics, but took a 83rd place spot on the Billboard charts. He then released another single, Butterfly Kisses, this year but that flopped too (with a title like that? Obviously).

The outlook of past winners might be grim, but there's still hope! We saw three past performers from season two on The Voice stage this season to give us hope. Fourth runner-up Chris Mann has found fame with two albums, a performance for President Obama himself, and a Leno appearance scheduled for Dec. 21.

Runner-up rocker Juliet Simms also came on the show and killed it with her single Wild Child. And cutie country singer RaeLynn, a quarter-finalist, won our hearts over yet again with her single Boyfriend.

See!? It's not all bad!

So, why wait and see if the next Voice winner will flop? We may sort of know who's going to take The Voice crown, but we can only predict who will actually take all the glory with real world fame.

The Voice has finally narrowed it down to its final three contestants. This year, Team Blake has swept the stage with his two singers, while Cee Lo  is banking on Nicholas David.

We've got Scottish rocker Terry McDermott, who ditched his band to make it big and Nicholas David, the spiritual singer who found himself through song.

Lastly, we have the popular Cassadee Pope, who had somewhat "made it" with her band Hey Monday. They had a successful tour, opened for popular bands and racked up millions of YouTube views with their videos. But Pope wants to make it on her own - and who can blame her?

Judging from numbers alone, Pope's song from Monday's show, Stupid Boy, is still on the top 10 downloaded singles on iTunes days later. If this isn't a sign she's a shoo-in, what is?

Cassadee Pope

Chance of fame: 8/10

If there's an opening for a pop-rock princess right now, Pope's girl-pop chops and Avril Lavigne-esque hair might fill the void. With a decent following from her old band, Pope knows how to win the tweens over. With some sparkly dresses, fake electric guitars, and songs about break-ups she should do just fine off of The Voice stage. But the States can have her. We've had enough Avril-ness here in Canada, thanks.

Terry McDermott

Chance of fame: 6/10

As a solo artist, it's doubtful he'd make it big. With Beatle hair like that, he needs a band to back him up. Even hottie Adam Levine uses Maroon 5 as an excuse to be famous. I'm not sure why McDermott ditched his old buddies, but maybe he should call them back and they can try it one more time.

Nicholas David

Chance of fame: 4/10

His voice is great, but have we ever seen a singer like him make it big? Jack Johnson's got it covered for the slow, low jams and John Mayer takes the sexy cake when it comes to manly voices with a guitar. There may not be a place for David just because the stage is already crowded enough.
