Enbridge restarts Alberta Clipper pipeline after spill

Enbridge restarted its 450,000 barrel-per-day Alberta Clipper pipeline after an oil spill at a Saskatchewan pump station Saturday.
The estimated 125-barrel spill was mostly limited to the Rowatt pump station, located south of Regina, though some windborne oil sprayed onto the property of a nearby landowner, Enbridge spokesman Graham White told Reuters. The company said the spray had been picked up.
Enbridge said regulatory and provincial officials, including emergency response officials, were notified of the spill and that an investigation was being conducted by Enbridge and the National Energy Board.
“We are committed to the goal of reaching zero spills, and will thoroughly investigate the incident for lessons learned,” Enbridge said in a statement Sunday.
It added that “there is no impact to the public, wildlife or waterways.”
The Canadian portion of the Clipper is 1,078 km long, transporting crude oil from Enbridge’s Hardisty Terminal in southeastern Alberta to its Gretna Station in southern Manitoba. It then connects at the international border to the U.S. portion of the system and continues to Superior, Wis.
