GATINEAU, Que. -- Suspended senator Patrick Brazeau spent the night in jail after being arrested Thursday on allegations of domestic violence, threatening a man and cocaine possession.

The Ottawa strip club manager appeared in Gatineau court Thursday afternoon, one day before a trial date was to be set on assault charges from an incident last year.

Clad in a green shirt and black suit jacket, Brazeau, 39, did not look at the media and said nothing.

He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault, uttering threats, drug possession and breaching court-ordered conditions to keep the peace.

Crown attorney Sylvain Petitclerc said Brazeau's alleged breach of condition earlier on similar charges was why they argued against his release.

Brazeau will appear again in court on Friday to deal with both sets of charges.

The latest charges stem from a domestic disturbance Gatineau police were called to shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday at a Labrosse Blvd. home.

It is alleged Brazeau and a woman, identified on court documents as Vanessa Brisson, were fighting on the porch of her home.

In a Facebook post on March 17, the 27-year-old barmaid refers to Brazeau as "my love," as the pair celebrated their one-year anniversary.

During a search, police also found a small amount of suspected cocaine.

A man identified in court documents as Marc Lamontagne, 50, was also in the home. Brazeau is accused of threatening and assaulting him, but also claimed Lamontagne had assaulted him.

On Thursday, media activity along the quiet Labrosse Blvd., prompted a neighbour to call police.

Brazeau was charged with assault and sexual assault after police responded to a domestic dispute in February 2013 at the Gatineau home of his ex-wife.

In a separate case, Brazeau was charged with breach of trust and fraud for housing expenses filed as a senator.
