Men's fastball returns to Norwich

NORWICH -

Men's fastball is coming back to Norwich.

The Norwich Tigers are fielding a team in the Tri-County Men's Fastball League.

Norwich Tigers home games will be held Thursday nights with the occasional Sunday evening game. The season kicks off on May 11 when the Tigers will travel to Tavistock. Game time is 6 p.m.

Player/coach Brenden Eppel said it's been a few years since Norwich had its own men's fastball team. This year's team is mostly players who were on the Tillsonburg Tigers and are predominantly from Norwich, or nearby.

“It's mostly local guys. We've got close to 10 from Norwich, Delhi,” said Eppel.

There are 17 full-time players on the roster, ranging from long-time fastballers to a few newer players. Joel McKie and Dylan Polfliet are the team's pitchers and both from the Norwich community.

“Tri-County league is a really good, competitive league,” said Eppel, adding although the Tigers are in the lower half of the standings, they still play a good game.

“It's a great game for spectators, a fast-moving game.”

Tri-County league includes teams from Hickson, Innerkip, Sweaburg, Tavistock, Port Burwell and Woodstock.

Norwich's first home game is May 15 at 8 p.m.
