TORONTO

Flanked by a tiny baby held in Davenport MPP Jonah Schein’s arms, Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath promised a government under her leadership would put $15 million into making sure students are well fed.

“This will help 70,000 more children have a good breakfast in their tummies when they come to school, to enable them to be ready to learn,” she said at an announcement outside Dewson Street Junior Public School, in the Ossington Ave.-College St. area.

With the election less than two weeks away, Horwath blasted the Liberal government for being “more interested in spending money on its own political priorities than ... on the priorities of families.”

She also targeted PC leader Tim Hudak’s pledge to cut 100,000 public sector job.

“We have Mr. Hudak, who wants to throw 100,000 families to the curb and fire firefighters and nurses,” Horwath said.

A televised debate with the three main party leaders is scheduled for next Tuesday.

“I’m actually looking forward to the debate,” she said. “It’s going to be an opportunity for Ontarians to see the three leaders, understand not only their ideas, their plans for the future, but get a sense of who we are as people and what our values are.”
