PCs would hurt municipalities: Wynne

TORONTO

An Ontario Progressive Conservative government would threaten provincial supports for municipalities like bridge repair funds, Liberal Leader Kathleen Wynne says.

Wynne, who will speak to the Canadian Club of Toronto Thursday, warned mayors that PC Leader Tim Hudak would kill the Liberal budget which includes a 10-year Moving Ontario Forward Fund to build roads, bridges and transit infrastructure.

“My commitment to supporting and working in partnership with municipalities has been unshakeable,” Wynne said in a statement. “Tim Hudak, on the other hand, has signalled that he wants to roll back the clock to a time when government believed its top priority was to pick fights and avoid its responsibility to help people and communities succeed.”

Hudak has pledged to balance the provincial books by 2016, and has argued that not doing so would jeopardize the ability of the government to maintain public services and programs in the future.
