Potters Road not safe for traffic

Oxford County residents are reminded that County Road 37, known as Potters Road, is still closed.

A press release from the county offices July 24 asks residents to stay off the closed section during the six weeks it's expected to take to investigate and repair the damage caused when a 300-foot embankment collapsed July 17.

The section of Potters Road from Westtown Line near Tillsonburg, to Oxford Road 13 is closed to all non-local traffic. A section of the road from Union Line east about 150 meters is closed to all traffic, including bicycles and pedestrians.

“The road needs to remain closed because rain, or even the weight of a car, could cause further collapse and possibly the complete loss of the road,” said Rob Walton, director of county public works, adding that residents' safety is of primary concern in this situation.

The closure remains in effect while the cause of the collapse is investigated and the slope is stabilized and reconstructed.
