Numerous OPP units assisted in a high-speed chase on Thursday, Aug. 28, shortly after 1 a.m. that ended in Brant County.

An OPP officer was conducting radar in South West Oxford when a pickup truck towing a trailer sped past him travelling at high speeds. The officer tried to initiate a traffic stop, but when the pickup truck failed to stop, the chase ensued.

The chase continued into Brant County as other OPP officers were called into action. OPP from Oxford, Brant, Norfolk Counties and Six Nations Police Service assisted in the pursuit. Eventually they resorted to a spike belt device that was successfully deployed by the officers and stopped the pickup truck, deflating its tires.

With the success of the spike belt device, the two suspects then fled on foot.

The OPP –with the help of the OPP Canine Unit- eventually arrested both suspects. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the pickup truck was stolen from Elmira, and the trailer –which contained a Harley Davidson motorcycle- was stolen from St. Thomas.

The 34-year-old Oshweken man and 27-year-old Grand River First Nations man are being charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, theft over $5,000 and theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000.

The accused are being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
