BARRIE, Ont. — Barrie MP Patrick Brown announced Sunday he will vie for the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario.

Whitby MPP Christine Elliott was the first to launch her bid to lead the party followed by Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli’s announcement last week. Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton has indicated he will run and Nepean-Carleton MPP Lisa MacLeod is expected to make an announcement soon.

Former leader Tim Hudak resigned after the June 12 election in which the party failed to oust the Liberals and lost nine seats.

“Frankly, we need a fresh start for the PC Party of Ontario. We need someone not associated with the baggage of past failures, who owes no favours to special interest groups and insiders,” Brown told QMI Agency.

He said the party needs a massive rebuild.

“We need someone who is going to be hard working, who knows how to win and has the ability to expand the reach of the party,” he said.
