Tillsonburg man pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography photos

A Tillsonburg man pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography on Tuesday.

The charges date back to last summer, when Troy Armstrong, then 32 years old, was arrested on Aug. 26 after a three-month online police investigation.

Officers from several OPP teams, including the child sexual exploitation unit, searched his home and computer on Aug. 26.

Police seized Armstrong’s computer and some external media after finding photos of child pornography.

According to the charge read out in the courtroom on Dec. 8, those files were traced to the period between May 24 and Aug. 26.

Armstrong appeared at the Woodstock courthouse on Tuesday, attentive and silent except to say “guilty” when asked how he wished to plead.

Justice Matthew Graham told the Crown that he asks for a synopsis to be filed in cases such as these, in order to provide additional information on the case. That synopsis was not read out in court.

Justice Graham also requested that a summary be prepared by the investigating police officer with details such as the number of images found on Armstrong’s electronics.

A pre-sentence was also ordered. That report is used to find out more about an offender’s background and is intended to help a judge decide what length and type of sentence to give.

Armstrong will return to the Woodstock courthouse on Feb. 25 to be sentenced.
