The weather was beautiful, but it turned out to be a rotten weekend for a would-be boater in Port Dover.

Saturday, the boater was attempting to remove a boat on a trailer from the Harbour Marina on Passmore Avenue.

For reasons unknown, the boater’s car coasted backward down the boat launch into the drink. The vehicle was nearly submerged but there were no reports of injury.

“The car is a write-off,” marina manager Janet Blackburn said Monday. “It’s done.”

The car and attached boat were removed from the water within half an hour of the incident. Blackburn reports the mishap left no contamination behind that she could detect.
