Article content

At 12:37 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched to the Canada Post Office at 54 Brock Street East, Tillsonburg, in a tiered call with Tillsonburg Fire and Rescue Services.

Several employees reported having medical symptoms from something in the building, said OPP Constable Stacey Culbert. All eight employees followed protocol and evacuated the building.

"Kudos to them, they did what they needed to do," said Culbert.

Oxford EMS attended the scene and all employees affected at the scene were examined by EMS personnel and released.

Brock Street East, from Harvey Street to Lisgar Avenue, was closed for several hours, opening again around 3 p.m. The post office remained closed.

"The building will be quarantined while the UCRT investigates," said Culbert after speaking to the Urban Search and Rescue Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosive Response Team.

"We don't have a timeline for that. It will be under investigation."

There is no public safety threat at this time, she noted.

UPDATE

Nothing suspicious was located and the building was released to Canada Post, which opened for business Thursday morning.
