Paint shop employees evacuated Tuesday afternoon after small explosion at Toyota Plant in Woodstock
Paint shop employees at Woodstock’s Toyota plant were evacuated on Tuesday afternoon after a small explosion.
“It was a couple of waste drums that are highly pressurized, and the lid popped off,” said Suzanne Baal, communications manager with Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. “As a precaution we evacuated the team members that work in the paint shop."
No one was injured and there was no damage as a result, she added.
“Because we weren’t painting cars, we weren’t able to continue building cars, so the folks who were on day shift were excused a little bit early," Baal said.
Local police and fire were alerted at 1:23 p.m. when a 9-1-1 call was made to report the incident.
Baal said that everything was expected to be back up and running by the time the night shift started early Tuesday evening.
The company will continue to investigate what caused the top of the waste drums to fly off.
