Dog owner charged after two dogs left in vehicle

A Norfolk man was charged this week after two dogs were left unattended in a vehicle in Port Rowan.

Norfolk OPP were summoned to the parking lot of Foodland on Bay Street around 3 p.m. Monday. Police report the dogs were left in the vehicle “for an extended period of time.”

The 66-year-old pet owner was charged with leaving an animal unattended in a vehicle contrary to Norfolk’s animal control bylaw.

“If you see an animal in a vehicle on a warm or humid day who you believe may be in distress, gather as much information as you can,” Const. Ed Sanchuk of the Norfolk OPP said in a news release.

“Obtain the make, model and licence plate of the vehicle and immediately enter the store and have the owner paged and then contact police.”
