Intruder confronted in garage

A would-be thief was mistaken this week when he thought he could sneak into a local garage in the middle of the night undetected.

The intruder entered the detached garage on Charlotteville Road 10 west of Simcoe Monday around 3:30 a.m. Soon after, he was confronted by the homeowner.

He was last seen running east toward a bush lot. Nothing appears to have been taken.

The suspect is described as about 20 years of age, about 5’ 10” tall and with a slight build. He was wearing a grey shirt and dark clothing.

“Police remind home owners to ensure all doors and windows are secured in order to prevent anyone from gaining access to their residence, barns or garages,” Const. Ed Sanchuk of the Norfolk OPP said this week in a news release.

“The OPP remind the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times and to be extremely vigilant when a stranger arrives at your home.”
