WINDHAM CENTRE -

A worker was killed in a farming mishap in Norfolk County on Tuesday morning.

Norfolk OPP say a 43-year-old man was operating an open cab farming tractor near a pond at a farm on Windham Road 5 when the tractor slid down an embankment. The tractor rolled over, trapping the driver.

It's not known if other workers were nearby at the time of the incident.

Norfolk police, fire, paramedics and Ornge air ambulance responded to the farm at around 9:30 a.m.

The man, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two inspectors from the Ministry of Labour were on the scene Tuesday. Their investigation continues. There is no word on how long the investigation will last.

“Every case is different so it will depend,” said Gloria Yip, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour. “In terms of cases where prosecution could be warranted, there is a time limit on that... charges have to be laid within a year of the incident but otherwise, the investigation takes as long as it needs to.”

A post-mortem will be conducted Wednesday to determine cause of death, said police.
