Police blotter: Man facing assault charges
A 40-year-old Norfolk County man is facing charges after an incident on Chapel Street in Simcoe.A concerned citizen contacted police on Friday night concerning a confrontation between two men.
Norfolk OPP say the men became engaged in a verbal altercation which then turned into a physical confrontation after one man produced an edged weapon.
Police have charged one of the men with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and assault and theft under $5,000.
Drugs seized from fugitive
Narcotics were found on a man in Simcoe last week after he attempted to run from police.
Police were questioning the man at Norfolk General Hospital late Friday night about an incident that occurred earlier in the evening. The suspect attempted to make a run for it. Norfolk OPP apprehended the man a short time later.
A 47-year-old Norfolk County man has been charged with obstructing police, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana.
Garbage dumped in ditch
The driver of a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup was spotted dumping a quantity of white packages into a ditch along 3rd Concession Road in South Walsingham on Sunday.
The driver was confronted by a concerned citizen at which time he got back in the truck and left the area. A picture of the licence plate number was turned over to police and officers are continuing to investigate.
"Investigators are looking to speak to the both the driver of this particular vehicle. I am urging them to contact us before we have to make contact with them," Norfolk Const. Ed Sanchuk said in a release.
$16,000 ATV stolen
A late-model all-terrain vehicle with an estimated value of $16,000 was stolen near Port Rowan last week.
A home was broken into late last week on South Walsingham Concession Road 2. A quantity of bottled water and soft drinks were removed from the home.
During the break-in, someone forced their way into a locked storage container. Taken was an orange-coloured 2015 Kubota RTV X900.
The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between early Thursday and late Saturday afternoon.

Attempted ATM theft in Hagersville
Three suspects who attempted to break into an automated teller machine in Hagersville fled from police and were last seen in Brantford.
The attempted theft occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Sept. 14 on First Line in Hagersville.
Haldimand OPP responded to an alarm at an ATM kiosk where they observed three unknown suspects.
As police entered into the parking lot, the suspects fled the area on two motorcycles at a high rate of speed.
OPP were able to follow and maintain a visual on the suspects who were seen travelling northbound on Highway 6 into Caledonia and onto Highway 403 westbound towards Brantford.
Information was relayed to Brant County OPP and Brantford Police Service who observed the motorcycles travelling westbound on Highway 403 before exiting southbound onto Wayne Gretzky Parkway.
The motorcycles then travelled westbound onto Colborne Street, then westbound along Dalhousie Street, which is a one way eastbound roadway.
The motorcycles were last seen in the Murray Street area of Brantford.
One of the motorcycles was yellow while the other was dark blue or black.
The suspects were wearing motorcycle helmets and riding gear.
Prior to receiving the alarm call, Haldimand OPP were responding to a suspicious persons call in Selkirk where it was reported unknown people on motorcycles were seen looking into a store which contained an ATM.
The people left the area after being noticed by a citizen.
OPP continue to investigate these incidents believed to involve the same individuals.
