SIMCOE -

A new hydrogen sulphide gas leak has been discovered on Forestry Farm Road.

This time it's on a woodlot owned by Norfolk County.

A former gas well at 1925 Forestry Farm Road, northwest of the intersection of McDowall Road, is leaking small amounts of the gas, said a media release issued on Friday afternoon.

A citizen brought the leak to the county's attention. Personnel from the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit and Norfolk Fire and Rescue responded.

“Subsequent investigation and methodical air sampling was conducted. Results indicated that trace amounts of H2S were observed at multiple locations, however readings were confined to a small area approximately 30 metres in diameter immediately adjacent to the well site,” said the release.

Exposure to residents in the area and the travelling public are not an immediate concern, although the county is requesting the public avoid the area as a precautionary measure.
