Illegal dumping of garbage in Waterford
Someone in the Brantford area could be in line for an awkward phone call from Norfolk County.
A crew from Norfolk public works was recently sent to Waterford to deal with the illegal dumping of garbage in the area of the Waterford Rail Trail.
While sifting through the refuse, a document was found bearing a Brantford address.
Staff initially wasn’t sure whether Norfolk had a bylaw against illegal dumping.
However, Chris Baird, Norfolk’s general manager of development and cultural services, confirmed this week that the municipality has a county-wide bylaw against littering that allows for charges and fines.
At the end of this week’s council meeting, Waterford Coun. Harold Sonnenberg said the dumping occurred at the west end of Nichol Street. This area is a few hundred feet south of the scenic lookouts on Black Bridge.
“The amount was considerable,” Sonnenberg said. “It wasn’t something someone could pick up and take home with them. They had to call in the public works department to clean it up.”
