COURT: Assault, theft result in jail stay, probation

A Norfolk County man who was brawling with another man was the only one arrested after OPP officers responded to calls about an assault in July.

Harold Franklin Zimmerman, 34, was arrested on July 17 after a concerned citizen called police at about 9:30 p.m.

In court in September, Zimmerman pleaded guilty to the assault, but charges of failing to comply with his probation were dropped.

Zimmerman also pleaded guilty to two counts of theft under $5,000 relating to an incident in January.

Justice Kevin Sherwood sentenced him to the equivalent of 75 days of time already served and placed him on a further probation of 18 months.

Zimmerman will have to provide a sample of his DNA for the national offenders registry and pay $300 in victim surcharges.
