Driver sentenced to time served
A Norfolk County man was sentenced last month to time already served in connection with a stolen vehicle that was found filled with drugs when police stopped it.
Kristopher Darren Oakes, 27, was in a car with a "large quantity of illicit drugs" and an amount of currency, according to Norfolk OPP, when the vehicle caught the attention of an OPP patrol on Queensway West on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
Oakes was the driver. He was arrested along with two other men and a woman and charged with having fentanyl and methamphetamine for the purposes of trafficking.
Oakes was also charged with being a suspended driver and possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime.
In court, he pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle that day while disqualified and breaching his probation while doing it. He also pleaded guilty to the same two charges from an incident on Sept. 29 last year. Other charges were withdrawn.
Justice Kevin Sherwood credited Oakes with having served 40 days in jail and ordered that he maintain a further two year probation sentence.
Oakes will also have to pay $400 in victim surcharge fines. Others in the group have yet to be sentenced.
