Searchlight is CBC Music's annual look for Canada's best undiscovered talent. Voting and judging began on Tuesday, Feb. 13 with the final winner being declared March 19.
Online and social media support is key to advancing in the contest before judges make final decisions.
The winning Searchlight act gets a handful of prizes, including a spot on the bill at the CBC Music Festival in Toronto, held at Echo Beach on Saturday, May 26, 2018. Winners also get a week-long residency and full access to the recording studios at the National Music Centre’s new building, Studio Bell in Calgary. They also get a spot in the 2018 Allan Slaight June Master Class artist development program.
“Searchlight 2018 will be a combination of audience voting and votes from our celebrity judges, a cross-section of the best that the Canadian music industry has to offer,” said Grant Lawrence with CBC.
