400 enthusiastic PC supporters gather in Caledonia

A confident Doug Ford predicted victory for the Progressive Conservatives in Thursday’s provincial election during an enthusiastic rally in Caledonia Wednesday evening.

“We will elect a government that respects the taxpayer,” Ford told a crowd of about 400 in the auditorium at the Caledonia Fairgrounds.

“And we will send the Liberals packing. We’ve had enough of waste and scandal.”

Ford  noted that many candidates running for Andrea Horwath’s New Democratic Party are on record with surprising remarks related to police, veterans, race and other issues.

Horwath has said these candidates can take sensitivity training if elected, but Ford rejected that.

“Government is no time for on-the-job training,” he said to loud cheers.

In Caledonia to greet Ford were Haldimand-Norfolk Progressive Conservative candidate Toby Barrett and Brant-Brantford PC candidate Will Bouma.

Making a guest appearance was Christine Elliott, the runner-up in this spring’s Progressive Conservative leadership race and a prime candidate for a senior cabinet position if the PC’s form the next government on Thursday. Elliott is running in the riding of Newmarket-Aurora north of Toronto.

Many waited in the parking lot outside the auditorium for Ford’s campaign bus to arrive but that’s not how the PC leader came to Haldimand-Norfolk

Instead, Ford arrived in a black Suburban limousine with tinted windows. He managed to enter the building with nobody noticing.

Security around the leader was heavy throughout. Visitors were not allowed to bring in signs, wear stickers or wear clothing promoting specific issues or political points-of-view.
