12-month probation for possessing stolen items
A Norfolk County man who pleaded guilty to possession of stolen doors and windows from a construction site was granted a suspended sentenced and ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution.
Justin Michael Hopkins, 34, was arrested Oct. 2 last year after police learned 26 windows, seven doors and a bunch of plywood was stolen from a storage container on Cockshutt Road near Townsend.
Surveillance footage showed someone loading the items into a flat-bed trailer behind a Dodge Ram pickup truck.
After arresting Hopkins, the construction material was all returned to the rightful owner, according to police.
Charges against Hopkins of breaking and entering, trespassing at night and theft over $5,000 were withdrawn.
The suspended sentence ordered by Justice Colette Good means he won’t go to jail on the possession of stolen property unless he breaches his 12-month probation.
