Police blotter: Resident loses $5,000 in revenue scam

A local resident is out several thousand dollars after being targeted in a telephone scam.

The resident received a call from a male indicating that a criminal investigation has been conducted and arrest warrants were being prepared stemming from overdue taxes owed to the government. A request for immediate payment was made at which time about $5,000 in iTunes cards were purchased and the identification numbers provided.

The OPP is urging all residents to hang up the phone if they should receive a call from anyone claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency threatening to arrest you. The fraudsters represent themselves as an agent of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to legitimize their fraudulent attempts to get residents to send them money and gain valuable personal information in the process.

Vehicle enters ditch, rolls and catches fire

A 26-year-old from Brantford was charged after a fiery crash on Saturday.

The charges stem from an incident at about 1:09 a.m. on Charlotteville West Quarter Line Road.

The driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and lost control. The vehicle entered the ditch, rolled over and caught on fire.

The driver managed to free himself and was attended to by Norfolk County Paramedics. He was subsequently transported to a local area hospital to be treated from minor injuries.

He was charged with care or control over 80mgs and driving a motor vehicle with no licence.

 

Theft from motor vehicle

A tackle box, necklace and medication were stolen from a locked vehicle parked Norfolk Street South in Simcoe on the morning of June 17.

Trailer containing diesel engine stolen

Sometime between June 8 and June 15, unknown culprits removed a 20ft. single axle enclosed trailer from a property on Talbot Road in Delhi. The trailer contained a diesel engine for a transport truck. The theft is estimated at about $8,000.

Woman drunk in public: OPP

Norfolk OPP has charged a 35-year-old female after an incident on Norfolk Street North in Simcoe. Officers were on patrol at just before 1 a.m. on Friday when they were approached by a concerned citizen about a female that was walking in the middle of the roadway causing vehicles to swerve in order to avoid hitting her. The woman was charged with being intoxicated in a public place, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.

 

Screen damaged

In the early morning hours of June 15, suspects cut the screen out of the front door of a residence on Queen Street North in Simcoe.

Bike stolen from school

A 24-inch Movelo mountain bike that is green and blue in colour was stolen from Delhi Public School. The theft happened on June 15 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
