Parents, students shouldn't raise money for programs not even taking place

Article content

I’ll admit that I never paid much attention to conflicts, contracts or the overall interaction between teachers, school boards and the government until this September.

My daughter has just started her educational journey and I find myself a bit more attentive, but also trying to reserve any judgment. I’ll admit I was disappointed when our meet-the-teacher night was cancelled, and disappointed for my friend’s children because their extracurricular activities have been cancelled as well.

However, I am very upset that paperwork, forms and fundraising information is being sent home with students to raise money for activities that are not taking place. What is that?

Students and parents are expected to give and raise money for an activity, club or sport that may not run? I don’t think so.
