Red Devils end on 13-game skid
The Wallaceburg Red Devils ended the season on a 13-game skid after losing two road games on the weekend in the Ontario Jr. ‘B’ Lacrosse League.
They lost to the previously winless Welland Generals 11-7 on Sunday and the Niagara Thunderhawks 17-2 on Saturday.
The Red Devils (3-16-1) placed second-last in the 12-team Western Conference one year after tying for third place with a 16-4-0 record.
On Sunday, Landon Allaer scored two goals at Welland. Brody Genyn, Riley Roe, Shawn Noah Glover, Evan Dumais and Hunter Santsche added singles.
CJ Gibson made 57 saves for the Red Devils, who were outshot 68-32.
On Saturday, Glover and Roe scored at Niagara-on-the-Lake. Cecil Jacobs made 46 saves as the Red Devils were outshot 63-20.
Speelman wins Modifieds feature
Brian Speelman of Blenheim took the checkered flag in the American Ethanol Modified Tour’s feature race Friday at Southern Ontario Motor Speedway in South Buxton.
Drew Smith and Joel Dick won the heats.
The three-year-old tour was in Canada for the first time. The tour was scheduled to visit the raceway again Saturday night, but all races were rained out.
Dresden’s races rained out
Sunday’s races at Dresden Raceway were cancelled due to unsafe track conditions after a heavy rainfall.
The next card is scheduled for this Sunday. Post time is 1:30 p.m.
Havoc collect road win
The Kent Havoc picked up a 10-7 road win over Bruce County on Saturday in the Niagara Rugby Union men’s ‘B’ division.
The Havoc (2-2) are tied for second place with the Windsor Rogues (2-2), two games behind the Stratford Blackswans (4-0) and two ahead of Bruce County (0-4).
The Havoc will visit the Blackswans this Saturday. Their next home game is Saturday, July 6, against the Rogues at 1:30 p.m. at Victoria Park.
DeKoning, Youlton power Sting
Nolan DeKoning scored and Sam Youlton posted the shutout as the Wallaceburg Sting beat visiting Tillsonburg FC 1-0 on Friday at Steinhoff Park in the Western Ontario Soccer League’s Premier Division.
The Sting (4-1-0) are in second place. They’ll visit Sarnia FC this Friday.
