Alfie will play Monday

The Senators could have another new look for Game 6 Monday night at Scotiabank Place.

Not only did captain Daniel Alfredsson tell reporters after the morning skate he will return against the New York Rangers, the possibility of newcomer Jakob Silfverberg playing hasn’t been ruled out.

While Alfredsson skated with the line of Kyle Turris and Nick Foligno, Silfverberg, who led Brynas to a Swedish league championship last week, skated alongside Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek.

If Silfverberg plays, rookie Mark Stone likely won’t.

He stayed out on the ice later with the scratches. It does appear Alfredsson is fully recovered from the concussion he suffered after an elbow to the head in Game 2.

“I feel physically fine,” said Alfredsson.

As for Silfverberg, he is excited at the possibility of making his NHL debut in the playoffs. He was voted the Swedish league MVP for the regular season and the post-season.

“We’ll just have to see what happens,” said Silfverberg, who arrived in Ottawa Sunday.

“I’m very excited and happy to be here. It’s been a great year. We had a few days off so I feel rested. It’s pretty exciting here.””

MacLean said he has given playing Silfverberg some thought.

“We’re considering playing Silfverberg tonight,” said MacLean.

The Rangers will make one change with Carl Hagelin going in the lineup to replace Brian Boyle.

Hagelin has served his three-game suspension for nailing Alfredsson in the head in Game 2.
