CALGARY -- Plummeting 4,000 feet after an apparent parachute malfunction left one man in hospital in critical condition Saturday evening.

STARS air ambulance was called to Beiseker Airport, about 75 km northeast of Calgary, just after 6 p.m.

Spokeswoman Kelly Brossart said they rushed a 25-year-old male to Foothills hospital.

"He'd sustained significant trauma after his parachute malfunctioned," Brossart told QMI Agency. "The patient, when we transported him, was in critical condition."

At the scene, prior to the man's transport to hospital, the incident drew RCMP, EMS and Rocky View Fire.

As of press time, no further details were made available on what exactly went wrong, or the full extent of the man's injuries.
