GUELPH, Ont. — Family and friends of Const. Jennifer Kovach are expected to be joined by hundreds of police officers from across Ontario on Thursday at a public funeral.

Kovach, 26, was killed March 14 when her cruiser collided with a Guelph city bus around 12:30 a.m. She had been responding to a call for backup by a fellow officer at the time.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Kovach’s mother, city councillor Gloria Kovach, said in a statement that her daughter was fulfilling a lifelong dream by being a police officer and said she had a "vibrant zest for life."

The public memorial Thursday in Guelph, located 90 km west of Toronto, will begin at 10 a.m. with officers marching from the police station, through the city’s downtown core, to the Sleeman Centre arena.

The funeral is set to begin at 11:30 a.m.
