Exploring the county's musical heritage

Norfolk County is in the midst of Mumford fever.
Norfolk Tourism recently released a video that showcases some of the beautiful scenery and exciting attractions that drew Mumford & Sons to the area.
The video, shot and produced by Rainey Media, follows the footsteps that Mumford & Sons members Winston Marshall and Ben Lovett took when they visited Norfolk prior to the announcement they will be hosting a two-day festival at the Norfolk County Fairgrounds Aug. 23 and 24.
Along with the video, Norfolk Tourism created two routes, available on www.norfolktourism.ca, that take visitors across the county, following in Mumford & Sons' footsteps or exploring the county's musical heritage in the Footsteps of Rock Legends tour.
During the Footsteps of Rock Legends tour, visitors will see Norfolk's former music halls of the 1940s, '50s, '60s and '70s including the former Hillcrest Dance Hall on the west side of Simcoe, the former Ken-Mar Dance Hall in Turkey Point, the Turkey Point Hotel, the former Roosevelt Dance Hall near Frogmore and of course, Delhi's own Belgian Club.
The Belgian Club has played host to several famous acts including Max Webster, April Wine, and Rush.
Many of the other attractions along the way will also be highlighted, including local museums, restaurants and shops.
Some stores are creating unique Mumford inspired products or special deals for those who say they are exploring the route set out by Norfolk Tourism. The Delhi Tobacco Museum and Heritage Centre is giving out free key chains to the first 50 visitors to ring the shopkeeper's counter bell and sing a portion of Stompin' Tom Connors' Tillsonburg.
