Friends of a Montreal woman who was attacked by a polar bear while working in Manitoba are hoping strangers will help her pay her medical transportation bills.
They have set up an Indiegogo.com fundraising site for Erin Greene, 30, who was attacked Nov. 1 in Churchill, Man.
She had to be airlifted to Winnipeg Health Science Centre the day of the attack to receive immediate medical attention.
But because she’s from Montreal and only works seasonally in Manitoba, she said her medical transportation costs aren’t covered — that includes three ground ambulance rides and the air ambulance.
The friends are hoping to raise $12,500.
In media interviews, Greene said she was attacked while walking home alone from a party. Bill Ayotte, 69, heard her screams and came to help her by getting the bear’s attention with a shovel. He was also injured in the attack.
The bear ripped Greene’s scalp, ear, and tore three arteries. She needed 28 staples and stitches to close the wounds.
