Stephane Robidas’ homecoming ended in the worst possible way.

Robidas, who spent more than a decade with the Dallas Stars and was making his first trip back to American Airlines Center since being traded to the Anaheim Ducks just before the trade deadline, suffered a fractured right leg while he was tangled up with Stars forward Ryan Garbutt in the second period of Monday’s game.

It’s the second time this season the 37-year-old defenceman has broken his right leg, although the latest fracture is in a different spot than the first.

Fans showed their support for the well-respected rearguard as he was helped off the ice, chanting “Robi! Robi!” as he retreated to the locker room.

“It’s a huge loss, because he was playing great,” said Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau. “I think all the guys on the bench felt extremely bad for him.”
