Cops to interview 'fake' soldier

Franck Gervais could still be facing criminal charges for impersonating a soldier during a Remembrance Day ceremony at the National War Memorial, but police want to speak with him first.

Ottawa police contacted Gervais at his home in Cantley, and according to Const. Marc Soucy, the man agreed to meet with Central Division investigators at the Elgin St. police headquarters on Friday.

But as Friday came and went, Gervais was nowhere to be seen.

And police weren't the only ones hoping to speak with Gervais.

A throng of media was also waiting at police headquarters, after numerous calls to Gervais' home went unanswered Friday.

Gervais sparked national outrage after appearing on a CBC broadcast of Remembrance Day ceremonies at the National War Memorial wearing military garb, which contained numerous inconsistencies that were identified by soldiers and veterans across Canada.

The Department of National Defence has no record of a soldier named Franck Gervais.

He has also been suspended from his job with Potvin Construction, the company told the Sun Friday.

“We have been made aware of the situation regarding one of our employees and are currently gathering information following this regrettable incident. We will not provide further comment at this time,” said Potvin general manager Martin Savard in an e-mailed statement.

The Sun made numerous calls Friday to contact Gervais’ Cantley home but no one was answering at the bungalow Gervais shares with his wife. His social media accounts have also disappeared.

Gervais could face charges of unlawful use of military uniform or certificates, which carries a maximum sentence of six months.
