TORONTO

A Toronto-bound Air Canada flight was diverted to Halifax Wednesday after a passenger allegedly assaulted two flight attendants.

Flight AC869, from London's Heathrow Airport to Toronto’s Pearson airport, made an unscheduled stop at Halifax Stanfield International Airport around noon "due to a disruptive passenger," Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said.

"The aircraft was met by police and a passenger was removed."

A 30-year-old South African woman was escorted off the flight and arrested, RCMP Sgt. Alain LeBlanc confirmed.

"Our initial investigation indicates that the female passenger assaulted two flight attendants during the flight," RCMP Sgt. Alain LeBlanc said.

The flight, with 239 passengers on board, resumed after an hour-long stop and was scheduled to land in Toronto around 3:10 p.m.
