The Mayor of Whitchurch-Stouffville wants the whole town to witness him tying the knot.

Mayor Justin Altmann is planning his nuptials with his bride-to-be, Jenny Hillier, this August and wants everyone to watch the ceremony, have some cake and meet the couple in a receiving line following the ceremony.

“When we first met, everything was very different (in a good way),” Altmann said in a press release Wednesday.

He said there had been so many requests to attend the wedding that the decision was made to invite everyone.

The couple have been engaged for five months now after a three-month courtship.

Altmann got down on one knee at a downtown Stouffville theatre and popped the question while Hillier’s favourite song, ‘At Last,’ was playing.

Altmann, 33, a life-long resident of Stouffville, was elected mayor in 2014. He was an entrepreneur in the town prior to that for 16 years.

Hillier, 34, works in management at the Bank of Montreal in Toronto.

The couple have purchased a home in the heart of Stouffville which they are currently renovating.

The ceremony will take place on Aug. 6 at 12:30 p.m. in front of the Lebovic Centre for Arts and Entertainment - 19 on the Park, where the couple will take their vows.

The couple promises the wedding will be “the event of the year” for Stouffville.
