The Oxford OPP are currently investigating the cause of death of a woman found in an idling vehicle on Canning Road Saturday morning.
OPP investigators were using drones while a forensic unit was on scene Sunday morning during the investigation of the death of a woman found on the road in Blandford-Blenheim around 9:35 a.m.
Police said they found an unresponsive woman after they were contacted by a concerned resident reporting a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the roadway.
A coroner pronounced the female dead Saturday.
OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk said police do not yet know who the woman is and have not commented on whether there is any link between this incident and a Blandford-Blenheim woman who was reported missing on her way to work on Saturday.
Friends and family reported that woman missing on Facebook.
“Once identity is confirmed, I will be able to release further details as they become available to me,” Sanchuk wrote in an e-mail.
On Sunday, local residents said they became concerned Saturday morning when walkers discovered a black car with tinted windows idling on the side of the road.
“People were concerned. It was so covered in dust and didn’t move,” said one neighbour, who didn’t want to be identified. “It’s really sad.”
The neigbour said there were at least a dozen OPP vehicles on scene on Saturday, and police were scouring local roads and fields during an intense investigation.
A post-mortem is scheduled for Monday morning, which, Sanchuk said, would provide more answers for police.
Canning Road at Highway 2 was closed until Sunday evening during the investigation.
