Wonder Woman fans are going to have wait a little longer for Gal Gadot’s return in the highly anticipated sequel.

Studio bosses announced Monday that Wonder Woman 1984 won’t open until June 5, 2020. The follow-up, which is shooting now, had been scheduled to open Nov. 1, 2019.

Gadot tweeted that she is happier with the date switch.

“Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home. June 5, 2020. Be there or be square!!!,” she wrote.

In a statement, Warners president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein said June was a more ideal time for the picture.

“We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did. This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.”

The sequel reunites Gadot with co-star Chris Pine. Kristen Wiig joins the franchise as the sequel’s villain, Cheetah.

Coincidentally, Wonder Woman 1984 will now open in the same month as the sequel to another movie from the ‘80s Top Gun: Maverick.

Wonder Woman 1984 will be the eighth film in DC’s extended cinematic universe and will follow next spring’s Shazam! Warners is in the midst of making a Flash standalone (due out in 2021) and a Joker origin film that will be set outside the DCEU. Future instalments of Batman and Superman are also still being considered.

In an interview with the Sun last year, writer-director Patty Jenkins revealed her hopes for the sequel. “I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero,” Jenkins told the Sun. “I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing. Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.”
