Article content
Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me … and, can it be? — maybe they do, because Morrissey is finally coming to Edmonton, to the Jubilee Auditorium April 18!
Love him or hate him, the groundbreaking former lead singer of the Smiths is coming to Canada for the first time since the turn of the century, a seminal figure in the emergence of indie rock and post-Beatles-generational Britpop — besides Nick Cave, as dark and stormy a cult superstar as they come.
Nary a day has gone by since the mid-‘80s when some college radio station didn’t play one of his many moody and mournful songs, the most famous of which will be up for bitter debate but certainly includes the jangly How Soon Is Now?, Bigmouth Strikes Again, Everyday Is Like Sunday, There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now and Shoplifters of the World Unite.

If you’re new to the man, 1986’s The Queen is Dead is an absolute must-have album by the Smiths; same goes for his solo effort, 1988’s Viva Hate. Or you can read his autobiography, though spoiler warning, it’s pretty bitchy, and that’s part of why we love him so.
Tickets go on sale to the general public via ticketmaster.ca 10 a.m. Friday.
