Anson Place COVID-19 death toll reaches 13

The number of residents who have died from COVID-19 at Anson Place in Hagersville has risen to 13.

A total of 51 residents have tested positive for the coronavirus at the retirement and long-term care facility as of April 11, the local health unit said in a release that same evening.

Thirty staff members have also tested positive for COVID-19. Those employees are not working at the facility.

The Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit and Anson Place are working to contain the outbreak. Measures include residents being placed in self-isolation in their rooms and staff wearing full personal protective equipment to prevent the transmission of the virus.

“All staff who are caring for residents at Anson Place are in self-isolation, with the exception that they may travel to and from work at the facility,” said the release.

As of Saturday morning there were 127 lab-confirmed positive cases of COVID -19 in Haldimand and Norfolk counties.
