Art With Heart has moved to the heart of downtown Simcoe.
Nikki Campbell-Schram, founder and CEO of Art with Heart, has announced that her business will be moving to Simcoe from Port Dover.
The new location on Norfolk Street North had notes in the window giving hints to anyone passing by about what might be going into the space. Campbell-Schram said they were “like ninjas” sneaking into the store at night so no one would know who was putting the hints in the window.
“We like to be fun and get the enthusiasm up, we’re all about energy. That was the perfect way to introduce the move to people,” said Campbell-Schram.
The business, which has been running for five years, recently closed its Port Dover location.
“Dover has been so supportive, wonderful, and lovely,” said Campbell-Schram. “The only downfall was that we couldn’t grow there, there was no spot to accommodate the larger class sizes.”
She said being in Simcoe creates a more centralized location in Norfolk County for students to attend classes. She added that registration has shown growth from students that would be travelling from Waterford or Delhi areas.
The new Simcoe location was supposed to be open in the beginning of July but now the goal is to open at the start of September.
“The Norfolk Arts Centre has been instrumental for us in the move,” said Campbell-Schram. “They kindly allow us to run our programming out of their building right now to allow us to get our stuff together.”
She said that the arts businesses in Norfolk collaborate well. She has worked closely with Suzanne Earls from Pieceful Arts, as well as the Norfolk Arts Centre to improve downtown spaces.
“We want to make downtown Simcoe the place to be.”
A few ideas floating around to make the space feel inclusive and welcoming for young people are kids karaoke and board game nights.
The regular season programming, including after school art classes and drama kids, will be available soon.
The programming also will be expanding now that there is a larger space.
