B.C. man dies in Port Dover crash

Police thank Good Samaritans for assisting crash victims

A visit to Ontario turned tragic for a British Columbia man following a fatal two-vehicle crash west of Port Dover this week.

Karl Heinz Hacker, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene Monday afternoon following the collision on Highway 6 near Port Ryerse Road.

Police report a 16-year-old driver was westbound on Highway 6 when a head-on collision occurred around 3:15 p.m. The 16-year-old, the 67-year-old driver of the eastbound vehicle, and a 67-year-old passenger in the same vehicle all suffered serious injuries.

Air and ground ambulance transported the survivors to trauma centres in Hamilton and London.

Highway 6 between Blue Line Road and Port Ryerse Road was closed for several hours Monday afternoon and evening while police analyzed the crash scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

“The OPP would like to take this opportunity to thank the Good Samaritans that came to the aid of the injured drivers,” Insp. Joe Varga, head of the Norfolk OPP, said in a news release.

“They definitely made a difficult situation a little easier for the people involved.”
