Broke court order, man gets jail sentence

A London, Ont., man who was under an order that prohibited him from communicating with anyone under the age of 16 unless he was supervised was convicted of breaking that order in Brantford.

Derek Michael Goulet, 43, pleaded guilty in Ontario Court to failing to comply with a court order in August 2016 and in September 2018, when he was caught communicating with a 13-year-old.

Justice Aubrey Hilliard gave Goulet credit for having served 230 days and ordered him back to jail for another 100 days.

The judge also ordered him to get assessed and counselling with respect to boundary issues involving young people.


Indecent act

A Sheridan Street man who masturbated in front of a special constable in February was sentenced to six months of time already served in Ontario Court recently.

Kevin Leonard Henry, 48, pleaded guilty to committing an indecent act in public and assaulting a peace officer because he threw a urine-soaked shirt at one.

Henry also pleaded guilty to causing a disturbance at a different time.

Justice Colette Good credited the time Henry had spent in jail at the usual 1 1/2-for-one days to give him a sentence of 189 days in jail.


Pleads guilty to to six charges

A Brantford man pleaded guilty to six offences committed over the last 18 months when he appeared recently in Ontario Court.

Christopher Daniel Frost, 28, of Terrace Hill Street, was before Justice Robert Gee who assigned more days to each crime for Frost.

He pleaded guilty to breaching bail and not showing up for court in April 2018; breaking probation orders the following month, and not going to court again in October.

From this year, Frost pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman in June and breaking his bail conditions while doing so.

Gee allotted time that ranged from nine to 60 days for the crimes for a global sentence that totalled more than three months of time already served plus another 45 days of new jail time.


Stole TV

A 30-year-old Brantford man was sent back to jail when he appeared in Ontario Court recently pleading guilty to stealing a big screen TV from a local motel.

Eric Paul-Joseph Gallant admitted to breaking probation orders in February, taking the television from the Sherwood Motel in May and committing a break-in and breach of bail in July. The breach involved not reporting to a St. Leonard’s Community Services program that was to help Gallant.

Justice Aubrey Hilliard credited Gallant with the equivalent of 120 days of time already served and gave him another 81 days of new time for his crimes.

Broke probation orders

A Brantford man who was caught with a stolen high school championship ring while breaking probation orders was sent to jail in Ontario Court recently.

Tem Timothy Baccam, 47, of Nelson Street, pleaded guilty to breach of probation on July 15 when he didn’t report to his probation officer, and again a month later when he was found at a Victoria Street home he had been ordered to avoid.

Justice Robert Gee gave Baccam credit for serving three days in jail and sentenced him to a further 102 days.


Suspended sentence

A Brantford man was sentenced to about 80 days of time already served when he appeared in Ontario Court recently.

Cameron D. Grieves, 19, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer in January, assault in April when he was in a home where he wasn’t invited, and breaking bail conditions in June.

Justice Colette Good gave him a suspended sentence for breach of bail, meaning he won’t spend time in jail if he maintains a probationary period.
