Close to $200K in cheese stolen

Nearly $200,000 in cheese was stolen last week from a Tavistock business, police said.

The Oxford OPP responded Tuesday afternoon to a theft at a Hope Street West business in East Zorra-Tavistock Township.

According to the police investigation, an unknown male provided the appropriate paperwork for a shipment of cheese bound for New Brunswick. The trailer was loaded and the driver left in a blue transport truck.

When the cheese didn’t arrive at the destination, it was discovered the paperwork was fake and the cheese loaded into the transport truck was stolen, police said.

The Oxford OPP said about $187,000 in cheese was stolen.

The Oxford OPP crime unit is continuing to investigate and are asking for anyone with information to contact them at 1-888-310-1122. They can also provide information anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.oxfordcrimestoppers.com where they may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
