Dating scam nets $30,000

A Norfolk resident was taken for a lot of money by an online lover who turned out to be a phoney.

Norfolk OPP were informed of the scam last Friday. The complainant said they had wired $30,000 to an online paramour over the past four years.

The complainant said the requests for money always came in response to some alleged emergency.

“A request to send money to a foreign country to a person you have never personally met should be a red flag,” Const. Ed Sanchuk, spokesperson for the Norfolk OPP, said in a news release.

“Ask yourself: `Would someone I have never met really declare their love for me after only a few letters or emails?'”
