Drug bust nets $105K in suspect drugs, weapons and cash

Two Chatham residents face drug and weapons charges following a search at a Park Street home in Chatham that netted approximately $105,000 worth of suspected drugs.

Chatham-Kent police said members of the intelligence section, with assistance from the Critical Incident Response Team, also seized a loaded handgun, a sawed-off shotgun, digital scales, cash, price lists and packaging material in the search Wednesday night.

An 18-year-old male was arrested and taken into custody after a short struggle, police said.

He was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.

Other charges include unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a restricted firearm – with ammunition, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, resisting a peace officer and seven counts of failing to comply with a release order.

He was placed in custody pending a bail hearing, police said.

A 45-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a restricted firearm – with ammunition and two counts of careless storage of a firearm.

She was released with a Sept. 11 court date, police said.
