Don Arbour and Legion president Gary MacPherson presented the cheque for $5,000 to Jolene Courtemanche and the Espanola Regional Hospital and Health Centre Foundation.

Courtemanche says her fundraising quest is now over.

“I’m done.”

She started in September, and not quite three months later has reached her goal. This was an extraordinary task for any one person, much less one who is wheelchair bound with her own medical challenges. She is humble about her accomplishment, saying she is very thankful for everyone who helped her fundraise for the vein finders.

“It was a team effort, right from the get go.”

Her vision was to provide two vein finders, one for the lab and one for the emergency department.

There was still one more donation before Courtemanche is officially done fundraising. On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the Royal Bank is presenting a cheque, which will go towards covering the tax on the two medical devices.

There are some people who are wondering what Courtemanche will be up to next since she has proven quite effective as a fundraiser and a great ambassador for the hospital foundation. As food bank president Susan Kryzanowski put it, “She has lots of spunk.”

It is a question that Courtemanche is also asking herself.

“What the heck am I going to do now?”

At the moment, she says she is riding on an emotional high, but she does plan on taking a long break.

“I’m so thankful that it is over.”

It was a fun, relaxing afternoon for her at the Legion, as she spent time socializing with friends and also participated in the meat roll-offs. She even tried her hand at spinning the numbered wheel to win one of the prizes.
