Article content
Lawn watering restrictions went into effect Monday in Chatham-Kent for all residential and commercial customers using municipal water.
The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission announced customers with odd-numbered addresses can water their lawns on odd-numbered days and customers with even-numbered addresses can water on even-numbered days.
There’s a two-month grace period for newly sodded lawns.
“With the extended hot dry weather that this region has been experiencing, lawn watering has placed extra demands on all of our water treatment plants,” general manager Tim Sunderland said in a statement.
It’s the first since July 2010 that watering restrictions have been put in place in Chatham-Kent.
The PUC may have to implement more restrictions if the water plants don’t see any relief. The current restrictions are the first in “several years” in Chatham-Kent, according to a PUC news release.
A heat warning is in effect for Chatham-Kent. Environment Canada expects the daily high temperature to exceed 32 C through to Friday.
